Complete guide
Big Bag (FIBC): a guide to choosing the right bag
A Big Bag, also called an FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container), bulk bag or jumbo bag, is a flexible woven polypropylene container that carries and stores between 500 and 2,000 kg of bulk product. It replaces dozens of small sacks: 40 bags of 25 kg equal a single 1,000 kg Big Bag.

Design your Big Bag in three decisions
We manufacture every type of Big Bag. Each bag is defined by three decisions: how it is filled and discharged, what protection the product needs, and which construction suits your load. If you are not sure, our technical team will define it with you.
1Filling, discharge and loops
The base configuration: how the product goes in and out, and how the Big Bag is lifted. See the filling and discharge combinations below.
Filling and discharge
Big Bag with filling and discharge spouts
Machine filling and controlled emptying into a hopper.
2Protection options
They can be added to any configuration, as your product requires.
3Body construction
Defines the shape and strength of the filled Big Bag.
Fine powders
Tubular fabric (circular)
Fabric woven as a tube, with no side seams; square once the loops are sewn.

Filling and discharge: choose the combination for your plant
The top defines how the Big Bag is filled (duffle top, open top or filling spout) and the bottom how it is emptied (flat bottom or discharge spout).

The fabric (weight, coated or uncoated) is defined by our technical team based on your product, the load and the conditions of use. That is why we ask a few questions in the quote form.
What is a Big Bag made of?
Woven polypropylene fabric, coated or uncoated; high-strength loops; sewing thread; and, depending on use, a polyethylene inner liner, filling and discharge spouts or internal baffles. At NEGASAC we use virgin polypropylene with UV additive.
How they are classified
- By construction:U-panel, tubular fabric (circular), baffle or Q-bag.
- By filling:open top, duffle or filling spout.
- By discharge:flat bottom or discharge spout.
- By loops:4 loops, 2 loops or single loop.
- By protection:no extra protection, with liner, food grade and Type B antistatic.
Safety factor: 5:1 and 6:1
The safety factor shows how many times its rated load (SWL) a Big Bag withstands in a break test. A 1,000 kg Big Bag with a 5:1 factor must withstand at least 5,000 kg in testing and is intended for single use. A 6:1 bag is designed for reuse under controlled conditions. The international reference standard is ISO 21898.
How to choose a Big Bag in 5 questions
- What product will you pack, and what is its density?
- How many kilos per Big Bag (SWL)?
- How do you fill it and how do you discharge it?
- Is it a food, a flammable product or a fine powder?
- Single-trip or reusable?
With those five answers our team defines the model, dimensions and fabric.
